Our Pop Vocals Performance Award has been designed specifically for primary school-aged children, giving young singers the opportunity to develop their vocal skills, confidence and performance ability in a fun and encouraging environment.

The award is divided into three progressive stages — STEP 1, STEP 2 and STEP 3. Each stage introduces new skills and challenges, allowing children to develop at their own pace while celebrating their progress and achievements.

🌟 STEP 1 – Getting Started
The first step is all about building confidence and discovering the basics of singing and performance.
Children will learn to:

• Develop basic singing and vocal techniques
• Sing in tune and find their natural singing voice
• Develop good posture and breathing
• Follow lyrics and song structures
• Keep a steady beat and sing along with backing music
• Begin to use expression when singing
• Perform in front of others with growing confidence

STEP 1 is about encouraging children to have fun, find their voice and become confident performers.

⭐ STEP 2 – Developing Your Performance
STEP 2 builds on the foundations developed in Step 1 and encourages children to become more confident, expressive and independent singers.
Children will develop:

• Improved vocal control and pitch
• Breathing and projection techniques
• Clear diction and pronunciation
• Greater understanding of rhythm and timing
• Singing with different styles and emotions
• Confidence when performing to an audience
• Ability to learn and perform songs independently
• Awareness of stage presence and performance skills

STEP 2 encourages children to develop their own performance style and become more expressive singers.

🏆 STEP 3 – Becoming a Performer
STEP 3 challenges children to bring together the skills they have developed and demonstrate them through confident and engaging performances.
Children will work on:

• Stronger vocal technique and control
• Pitch accuracy and vocal expression
• Dynamic singing — knowing when to sing softly or with greater power
• Interpretation and emotional connection to songs
• Stage presence and communication with an audience
• Performing confidently using a microphone
• Developing their own individual performance style
• Memorising and performing songs
• Working as part of an ensemble
• Preparing for and delivering a complete performance

STEP 3 gives children the opportunity to demonstrate their progress, celebrate their achievements and develop the confidence to perform in front of others.

The Pop Vocals Performance Award is about much more than learning to sing. Throughout the three steps, children develop skills that can benefit them both inside and outside the classroom, including:
